VK2735 is a dual GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonist being developed in both injectable and oral forms. A development program with multiple formulations creates opportunities to investigate different clinical roles, but evidence from one formulation should not be assumed to validate another.

Viking’s October 2026 update describes the ongoing VANQUISH phase 3 studies for subcutaneous VK2735. The company also announced initiation of the SUNRISE phase 3 program for oral VK2735. These statements describe investigational programs, not product approval. Viking third quarter 2026 clinical development update Viking oral VK2735 phase 3 program initiation

Separate efficacy, maintenance and formulation questions

An initial weight-loss study asks whether an intervention produces a benefit over a defined period. A maintenance study asks whether a benefit can be sustained after an initial phase. These are different designs and can involve selected populations. People who successfully complete an initial phase may not represent everyone who would start treatment.

The oral formulation adds questions about absorption, consistency and tolerability. A tablet cannot be evaluated solely by comparing the ingredient name with an injection. Its clinical performance needs to be established in its own trials.

Read milestones precisely

“Enrollment complete,” “trial initiated” and “results reported” mark different stages. A planned completion date is a projection, and a sponsor’s favorable description is not a substitute for the detailed results. When data are available, examine the prespecified endpoint, analysis method, withdrawals and adverse events.

AXON’s approach is to track each study separately rather than compress the program into one headline. This makes it possible to see what is known, what is in progress and which claims remain prospective.

No source reviewed here establishes that a retail product labeled VK2735 matches the investigational formulation. The program is a subject for clinical research education, not a basis for unsupervised use or a claim of an available approved alternative.
