“Hormone” describes a signaling role. “Peptide” describes a molecular structure made from linked amino acids. A molecule can be both, but the terms are not interchangeable.
Function versus composition
Hormones are chemical messengers released by cells that influence other tissues. The endocrine system uses them to coordinate processes such as growth, metabolism and reproduction. Hormone levels vary with development and daily physiological needs. NIGMS: What is a hormone?
Some hormones are peptides or proteins, such as insulin and growth hormone. Others have different chemistry, including steroid hormones and amino-acid-derived hormones. Conversely, many peptides have functions unrelated to endocrine signaling.

A label describing something as a peptide does not tell you whether it is a hormone, a drug, a cosmetic ingredient or a laboratory reagent. It also does not establish its effect, safety or legal status.
Similarly, calling a substance “natural” does not establish that administering it recreates normal physiology. Natural hormones operate within controlled patterns of production, release, distribution and feedback. External exposure may be very different.
A simple way to classify a molecule
Ask three separate questions: What is it made of? What does it do biologically? What evidence exists for the proposed use? Keeping those questions separate prevents a chemical category from becoming a health claim.
For example, “peptide hormone” is a meaningful scientific description. “Peptides are hormones” is too broad, and “not a steroid” does not mean an intervention is harmless.
The clearest educational language names the exact molecule and its role, then discusses the evidence for a particular application. Structure provides context; it does not replace research.
