Survodutide: Reading Liver Biopsy Outcomes AXON Research Institute • AXON Peptide affiliation Educational draft • Scientific + legal review pending Silent film with full on-screen captions. Conceptual illustrations, not molecular structures. Survodutide targets GLP-1 and glucagon receptors. In liver research, the important question extends beyond how much weight or liver fat changes. A 2024 randomized phase two trial studied adults with biopsy-confirmed metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis, called MASH, and liver fibrosis over 48 weeks. The primary endpoint was improvement in MASH without worsening of fibrosis. More participants reached that endpoint with survodutide than with placebo. Gastrointestinal adverse events were frequent. Improved inflammation and improved scarring are different outcomes. A biopsy result at one time point also cannot establish prevention of liver failure or longer survival without further evidence. (2024): A Phase 2 Randomized Trial of Survodutide in MASH and Fibrosis https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38847460/ Primary human randomized phase 2 biopsy-endpoint trial EVIDENCE LIMITATIONS MASH improvement without worsening fibrosis is not the same endpoint as fibrosis regression. Biopsy changes do not establish reduced liver failure, transplantation, or mortality. This episode describes the 2024 study rather than claiming the current development stage.
